Join Kewl as we pledge our allegiance during a tour of Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD. The star shaped fort best known for its role in the War of 1812 when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British Navy in the Chesapeake Bay. It was during this bombardment of the fort that Francis Scott Key was inspired to write "The Star-Spangled Banner," the poem that would eventually be turned into the national anthem of the United States, set to the tune of a British song "To Anacreon in Heaven". We'll also tour The flag House Museum where it is 1813, the nation is at war with Great Britain and a Baltimore flag maker, Mary Young Pickersgill, has just been asked to complete a 30 ft. x 42 ft. flag for Fort McHenry. This 15-star, 15-stripe flag would survive the british bombardment on the Fort, inspiring Francis Scott Key to pen a poem that would later serve as the lyrics to Americ's national anthem--The Star-Spangeled Banner.
